Goldfrapp will return in the new year with their fifth album. Out March 23, 2010, Head First has been described as their :most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.” Despite the label writing that, we’re still excited.

Stop the presses: Robyn and Diplo are working together?!? Pitchfork dug up this tasty collaboration, which the two have been tweeting about for a couple weeks now. Diplo says Robyn has made his “favorite track of 2010!” Considering his tastemaking skills, we’ll assume it will be ours too.

If you’re curious about Final Fantasy’s upcoming Heartland album, you can now get a taste of what’s to come from the “12 concise songs informed by the traditions of pop, based on one long narrative concept and played by an orchestra.” Domino is giving away an MP3 of “Lewis Takes Action,” which you can download here.

Let’s hope the guys in Pavement enjoy their hugely anticipated, forthcoming reunion. Spiral Stairs told The Age, “If it’s enjoyable for us, I think it is inevitable that we’ll make some more music.” Somebody please hold him to that.

Finally it looks as though Oasis might reform… without Noel Gallagher. As the founder of the band, Liam likely has the rights to it. He says, “We’re not using it [the Oasis name] at the moment, but if we don’t come up with something else by the time we’re ready to release the album it’ll be Oasis. I’m not going to call myself something ridiculous just for the sake of it.” He also added that they wouldn’t play any Noel songs live.

Peaches has taken a jab at Lady Gaga. In an interview with the A.V. Club, she responded to a question about Gaga ripping her off. “I’m not hating on her,” she said. “That’s cool for 12-year-olds, and when they turn 15, they find Peaches.” Ouch.

So, Liam Gallagher is going after a solo career now. After saying he was going to form a band with the members of Oasis who aren’t his brother, Liam is now seeing it as a solo career. He’s working hard too, telling MTV Italy, “After Christmas we might go in the studio and record it and hopefully have an album out in July.”

The singer of the late, great UK indie band Hefner was viciously mugged last Friday. Darren Hayman was left with a fractured skull after being attacked after a gig in Nottingham.

Members of The Velvet Underground will reunite on December 8th at the New York Public Library. Lou Reed, Maureen Tucker and Doug Yule won’t be playing live, but will be discussing their music and legacy with rock journalist David Fricke as part of the “LIVE from the NYPL” series.

And Nick Cave’s book The Death Of Bunny Munroe has been shortlisted for the annual Bad Sex Award, which the author who produces the worst description of a sex scene in a novel. What an honour!

Liam Gallagher is quickly getting over Oasis. Along with his clothing label, he says that he wants to form another band eventually. But he doesn’t “wanna do anything solo, it’s not my thing. I want to be in a band.”

“Pulp have no plans to get back together.” So says Jarvis Cocker who claims his words about playing Glastonbury were “twisted.” And that’s that.

AM-friendly rockers Midlake have announced a follow-up to 2006’s stunning The Trials of Von Occupanther is on the way. The “slower, darker” The Courage Of Others is set for a February 2, 2010 release.

Q Magazine held its annual awards ceremony last night. According to them Lily Allen had the best track, Arctic Monkeys were the best live act, Kasabian made the best album and Muse are apparently the best act in the world today.

From now until Halloween, you can download the beautiful Timber Timbre album for free. And yes, it’s legal! We love it, you should too.
