There’s been a lot of build up over this new Sleigh Bells album Treats and now you can officially hear it over at a stream hosted by NPR. Be careful though, keep the volume low because their levels are ear-bleeding.

Damon Albarn says he wants to make more music with Blur. Speaking with NME, Albarn says the success of the Record Store Day single “Fool’s Day” made him excited to record with Blur again. “I’m definitely going to do a few more of those seven-inches,” he explained. “I love the no pressure aspect.”

M83’s Anthony Gonzalez has written the score for the new film from French director Gilles Marchand. There isn’t much to go by, but you can read all about the film, Black Heaven, at the Cannes website. The synopsis sounds right up Gonzalez’s alley.

Sub Pop is having another spectacular year and to prove it the label is giving away a free digital sampler. On it is choice tracks by the likes of Dum Dum Girls, Foals, Male Bonding, David Cross, Beach House, The Ruby Suns and ooh, a new one from Wolf Parade! Download it here.

If you were one of the few to buy tickets to Empire Of The Sun’s Toronto show at the Sound Academy on August 8th, well, I’m afraid to say it’s been cancelled. The official reason is a “scheduling conflict” but the band “intend to bring the live show to Canada as soon as possible although no time-frame can be confirmed at this stage.” Considering the band were hoping to incorporate live animals and make it a visual spectacle, this doesn’t come as a surprise. They should probably wait until the next album though, because a show that size needs some buzz.

MGMT have told NME.com that they will not release any singles from their new album, Congratulations. Ben Goldwasseer explained, “We’d rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio – if anything gets played on the radio!”

One-time weekly music bible Melody Maker is set to get an online re-launch. The UK paper folded in 2000 after 74 years, but is set to get a redesign and make public its extensive back catalogue. No date has been given for re-launch.

Luke Steele says he’ll release three albums in 2010: one by The Sleepy Jackson, another by Empire Of The Sun and one by his “punk rock” solo project.

Klaxons are currently finishing up their new album. Producer Ross Robinson (yeah, the guy who basically invented nu-metal) has said that it’s “the most violent British record to date.” Robinson also said it sounds like “coming up for a gasp of air.” Mmm hmm…

And if you happen to be in Toronto on Thursday, Dinosaur Jr. will be performing a free concert at Sonic Boom on Bloor Street at 6:30 pm If you go, please don’t forget your earplugs.

While he may have left us six years ago, a new song from Elliott Smith has surfaced. His label Kill Rock Stars is giving away an MP3 of “Cecilia/Amanda,” which was originally recorded back in 1997. This gift comes along with news that KRS will remaster and re-release Smith’s first solo album, Roman Candle, along with the newly acquired final album, From a Basement on the Hill on April 6th, 2010.

The almighty indie bible Pitchfork has unveiled its Top 100 tracks of 2009. Topping the list? No surprises here: Animal Collective’s “My Girls,” followed by Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness Is the Move” and Phoenix’s “1901.”

Stereogum has been generous to share a photo album from the recent Ten Years Of ATP festival. There are some great pics of everyone from Yeah Yeah Yeahs performing Fever To Tell, Belle & Sebastian DJing, a fog-drenched Sunn O))) and a beardy Modest Mouse.

Though he found quite the buzz (and a fan in Jay-Z) with the dreamy psychedelic bubblegum of Empire of the Sun, Luke Steele is looking to release something new by his other band, The Sleepy Jackson. Steele told Aussie site Faster Louder he’s not sure when, but “the album should be out definitely in the next decade but not in the next 12 months – I’d want to, but I don’t think so, no.”

The Shins’ James Mercer and Danger Mouse have revealed details about their collaboration, Broken Bells. The two will release their self-titled, debut album on March 9th through Columbia Records. Described as ten “melodically seductive and psychologically provocative songs,” as of December 21st you’ll be able to hear their first single, “The High Road.”
