With Canadian indie band Stars in the holding pen, frontman Torquil Campbell has started a new band called Dead Child Star. Pitchfork reports that his main collaborator is Apostle of Hustle’s Julian Harris Brown but Torquil has also written songs with Metric’s Jimmy Shaw, Broken Social Scene and Minotaur Shock. The band’s MySpace features 6 songs and the blog describes the music as “dreamy and creamy and quite good, like if David Crosby joined Saint Etienne.”
Torquil’s also upfront on the blog about his current situation and what he’ll rely on his fans for: “I’ve got a record and some good strong friends, i just need a bit of money now…i’m trying the old fashioned way at the moment, but if it doesn’t work i’ll be back in touch to ask for a dollar from each of you.”
