Sled Island Lineup

June 3rd, 2009

One of Canada’s most promising and emerging festivals, Sled Island, has announced its full lineup, which includes more than 250 bands over the course of June 24th to 27th. Curated by Colin Newman, frontman for legendary post-punk band Wire, the third installment of this indie-favouring Calgary-based event is set to feature performances by Newman’s other project Githead, the Breeders, Biz Markie, Liars, Final Fantasy, Andrew WK, Japandroids, Anvil, Holy F**k, Malajube, the Evaporators, the Bronx and Woodhands, among many, many others. Also on the bill is a special dubstep showcase featuring internationally-renowned artists Excision and Dieselboy.

As stacked as the lineup might be, Sled Island isn’t just about music. The festival has broadened its activities to include a 5000 square-foot, day-long independent market organized by the local Market Collective, the sixth edition of the Warhol-inspired Factory Party series, as well as a film and visual arts bill that constitutes a mini-festival itself within the overall program.

In its first two years, Sled Island featured performances by some pretty awesome artists like Boredoms, Of Montreal, Cat Power, RZA, the Walkmen, Mogwai, Spoon, José González, Deerhunter, and No Age.

  1. I’m definitely more into the whole dubstep beat of things at the moment more than anything else.
