As you can likely tell, seminal ’90s indie rock gods Pavement have agreed to reunite for some shows in 2010. Yes, get excited.

After years of rumours and close calls (I saw Stephen Malkmus play some Pavement tunes with Bob Nastanovich at the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2007) the band will play “multiple, possibly four, nights of shows at NYC’s Central Park Summerstage” and as the headline of today’s blog on the band’s label Matador says: “Coming To A Town Near You (If You Live Near A Big Town) In 2010.”

Yes, this news has been even confirmed by the band’s still label Matador Records, whose co-founder Gerard Cosley, the man who signed the band, posted the blog confirming the reunion.

Here is the confirmation, if you need to read it for yourself:

After years of speculation, the most important American band of the 1990’s is returning to the stage, with the lineup of Mark Ibold, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West reuniting for dates around the world in 2010. Please be advised this tour is not a prelude to additional jaunts and/or a permanent reunion.

The first show will be set for September 21, 2010. But the tickets will actually go on sale via a pre-sale tomorrow here.

Pavement usually hit Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver during their prime, so we don’t see why they won’t head up north. Still, cross those fingers.

  1. It would be lucky for us Canucks if Pavement were to come to a big town such as Toronto.

One of the songs I’m remembering this morning, I have thoughts of the melody to “Type Slowly” drifting through my mind occasionally as I prepare to submit this.

That’s great that Pavement are playing Central Park.

    Good luck to them.
