Super fresh New York band, Amazing Baby have just released their full-length album, Rewild following their debut EP, Infinite Fucking Cross that was a free digital download back in July 2008.
The psych pop Brooklyn band who are influenced by bands such as MGMT and just recently opened up for Phoenix in Toronto this past week have a unique mix of sounds scattered throughout the 11 track LP. The band, consisting of former members of Stylofone, Diamond Nights, Lions & Tigers, Nebula, and the Heavy Hands used a fourteen-piece orchestra in the production of the album to bring together the various styles of music from glam rock, sugar pop, electro/psych and even some brit rock sounds.
Rewild starts off quite strong with the most mainstream sounding song Bayonets, followed by three or so more melodic tracks that you could easily see played in some episode of SKINS or something. It picks up again around track 6, with Deerripper and then jumps around (sound-wise) to the the dreamy rock song (and my personal favourite) Old Tricks in Hell to a folky The Narwhal, an eerie Roverfrenz, deep Smoke Bros and then finishes off with the strongest Rock sounding track (and other favourite) on the album, Pump yr Brakes.
While this isn’t the strongest album I’ve heard this year, you definitely have to give the guys credit for not creating one of those albums where every track sounds the same.
