Splitting his time between solo project Snailhouse and a hearty handful of other indie acts; Arcade Fire offshoot Bell Orchestre, The Harbourcoats and Angela Desveaux, Mike Feurestack is a busy musician. Having just completed a European tour in support of his new acclaimed album Lies on the Prize, Mike took the time to kindly relay his HIGH 5 records to listen to. As well be sure to check out Snailhouse at www.myspace.com/snailhouse.

Recommended Track: “Dollar Signs”

Robert Wyatt - Comicopera
Robert Wyatt specializes in subtle left turns. This is an touching example of how uncommonly generous it can be to make music for yourself. I hope I will be as inspired when I’m in my 60’s.

Shapes and Sizes - Split Lips, Winning Hips, A Shiner
This unlikely combination of people has more spirit and inventiveness than one group should have. They know how to make you feel good and uncomfortable all at once.

Susanna - Flower of Evil
Susanna takes songs from all over the pop music map and reinterprets them through a beautiful and dark filter. Material from Abba to Prince to Black Sabbath sees a sparse, delicate and at times unsettling re-assembly. Susanna Wallumrød’s own compositions sit among the others like they were always there. Will Oldham, clearly a kindred spirit, joins Susanna for two songs.

The Week That Was - s/t
After recently seeing this band play, I actually love this record more than I ever did. Somehow tight and sprawling at the same same time, these are soulful and unique songs. If you like this, you can go back to the Field Music records too.

Tuneyards - Birdbrain
Available only on cassette and digital download, this is clearly not aimed at the masses. Merrill (of Sister Suvi) does more in her home with a ukelele than most bands can do with a corporate credit card and all the time in the world. This is some of the most imaginative music I have heard in a long time.
