Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus has begun a new column on Spin.com where he reveals his favorite up-and-coming band. His inaugural pick? Vancouver power duo Japandroids because they “sound really different from anything out there.”

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke is said to be working on a solo album. Electronic artist Hudson Mohawke said he will be doing “stuff” with Okereke, along with “one of the guys from Spank Rock.”

Ted Leo’s Misfits cover band TV Casualty took to the stage Halloween night in Philadelphia. This wasn’t some spoof; Leo pulled off a deadpan homage to Glenn Danzig and it looks amazing!

Norwegian psychedelic shoegazers Serena Maneesh have signed with 4AD and scheduled their long-awaited follow-up to 2005’s eponymous album for release in March 2010.

Finally, “Weird” Al Yankovic will join the Pixies on stage at the Echoplex in L.A. on December 8th. Al will sing “I Bleed” with the band, who will play two benefit shows to raise funds for the Winston’s Village charity.
